Acanthus Holden Architects

Acanthus Holden is primarily an architectural practice, but in addition to its core activities, the practice provides planning consultancy, Principal Designer, project management, and historic building consultancy. It is our belief that to produce the best result, effective co-ordination and delivery require a set of skills that extends beyond pure architectural services. While architecture remains our core business activity, the practice regularly uses its other in-house skills to add value to the service it provides.

The practice has provided comprehensive design services that extend from inception to completion on site for more than 25 years. We are acknowledged for our environmentally sensitive and sustainable approach to projects and have experience of working on BREEAM and Passivhaus schemes. There are two Conservation Architects in the practice, and we have considerable experience on working on listed buildings.

We are well known throughout West Wales for our commitment to design through the conservation and creative re-use of redundant buildings as well as the design and integration of new buildings in sensitive environments. The Practice has also designed a number of important sustainable buildings. Through offering both planning and architectural services, we have the ability to consider not only the design and immediate setting of any building but also its impact on the wider environment.

Our Services

Architectural Design

As architects, we understand the importance of good design and believe that the initial design stages of a project are of critical importance. Following the formulation of the project brief and the correlation of survey information, we will embark on a design exercise working closely with the client using successful precedent, hand sketches, computer-aided design, and a range of models to develop the design.

Architectural Conservation

The office has a long history of involvement with historic buildings and has developed methodologies for their sensitive repair and adaptation. A portfolio of differing historic projects has enabled the practice to gain a detailed understanding of traditional building techniques and knowledge of long-term material performance. Peter Holden is accredited with AABC Architects Accredited in Building Conservation.
