Design Experience
The design experience with Philip Lewis is described as disastrous, resulting in a house that is functionally obsolete and aesthetically disproportionate.
Communication and Attitude
Philip Lewis is criticized for his poor communication and arrogant/dismissive attitude. The client only met him once, and the design work was passed on to an intern/trainee who was not a qualified architect.
Design Issues
Multiple design issues were encountered, including poor location of bathrooms and windows, bedrooms without adequate space for wardrobes, and a ceiling that had to be reduced in height due to poor communication with the structural engineer.
Structural Issues
The prefabricated timberframe structure required a redesign at an additional cost of 6,000 due to the bathrooms being on the wrong side of the foul drains. The first floor was also designed 31mm out of sync with the ground floor, requiring a structural bracket to be made to hold up a structural steel post.
Professionalism
The client felt that Philip Lewis demonstrated incompetence and a lack of professionalism, threatening to charge an additional 1,400 if the client reported him to the Architects Register Board.
