Helping You Bring Your Project Ideas to Life

Our History and Passion

Blake Architects is a distinguished practice born from a deep-seated passion for architecture and design. Our story began with Jonathan Nettleton, a graduate of both the esteemed Mackintosh School of Architecture and the University of Westminster, where he gained his ARB accreditation. Jonathan pursued his architectural journey with Dannatt, Johnson, honing his skills on a diverse range of historic projects that included the renowned Kew Gardens, the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, and Terwick Wood, a modern country house featured in the prestigious Royal Academy of Arts. Drawing inspiration from the Cotswold countryside of his childhood, Jonathan established Blake Architects in 2011, bringing together a team of dedicated professionals who share his vision.

Serving a Diverse Clientele

Over the years, Blake Architects has become renowned for its sensitivity and expertise in handling a wide spectrum of projects. From the restoration of historic barns and private residences to the revitalisation of hotels, holiday homes, shops, offices, and schools, our portfolio reflects our passion for transforming spaces while preserving their inherent character. We pride ourselves on engaging with our clients, understanding their unique needs and ambitions, and translating them into tangible architectural realities. We relish the challenge of exceeding expectations, navigating demanding planning constraints with innovative and tailored approaches. Every project, whether a grand country estate or a charming cottage, is meticulously crafted with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to creating spaces that are both functional and timeless.

A Commitment to Sustainability

At Blake Architects, we firmly believe in the importance of building responsibly and sustainably. Our commitment to environmental consciousness goes beyond aesthetics, encompassing every stage of the design and construction process. We meticulously consider the building's impact on its surroundings, integrating energy-efficient systems, and exploring innovative materials that minimise our carbon footprint. As a RIBA Chartered Practice, qualified in Passivhaus design, and members of the Green Register, we uphold the highest standards of environmental responsibility.

A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Our open-plan studio, a beautifully restored Cotswold barn nestled in a picturesque village between Cirencester and Cheltenham, serves as a testament to our core values. Designed by Jonathan himself, the studio exemplifies a harmonious blend of traditional charm and modern functionality. The building's insulated design and ground-source heat pump contribute to a sustainable, energy-efficient environment.

Large windows flood the space with natural light, creating an inviting atmosphere that inspires creativity. Our library, filled with inspiring books on classical, vernacular, and modern architecture, reflects our constant pursuit of knowledge and innovation. From hand-drawn sketches to state-of-the-art virtual reality walk-throughs, our team seamlessly integrates traditional and cutting-edge technologies to deliver exceptional architectural solutions tailored to each client's unique vision.
